BCR-ABL quantitation
(Haematology)
Investigation : BCR-ABL quantitation
Spec container : 4ml EDTA (LAVENDER)
Volume required : 15ml
Turnaround : 2 weeks
Samples should arrive within the laboratory within 72 hours of collection.

If sample cannot be sent immediately after bleeding, keep in 4 degree fridge and send as soon as possible.

Real-time quantitative RT-PCR for BCR-ABL fusion gene transcripts is used to serially monitor response in patients receiving IFN-a, imatinib (Glivec), other tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) and recipients of allogeneic stem cell transplants (allo-SCT). BCR-ABL transcript levels in the blood correlate strongly with the percentage of Ph- metaphases in the bone marrow. Rising levels of BCR-ABL transcripts is strongly predictive of cytogenetic and haematological relapse.
