The José Carreras Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Unit (Ward 10Z) was newly constructed in 1995 and extended in 2002. It is located on the 10th Floor (XYZ Lifts). It contains 8 single rooms with en suite. All rooms have high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration throughout, have lobbies, and are under positive pressure with the capacity for this to be switched off for organism containment if necessary. There is an additional 4 bed unit (7XBM) for autologous stem cell transplants.
The José Carreras Haemopoietic Stem Cell and Bone Marrow Transplant Programme is based within Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. The Programme is a Level 4 Stem Cell Transplant Unit providing both autologous as well as allogeneic transplants for a range of both malignant and non-malignant conditions to the Merseyside & Cheshire Cancer Network, Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man.
