Bone marrow aspirate is spread onto microscope slides. These are then air-dried and may be fixed and then stained using a variety of techniques in order to assist in obtaining a diagnosis. Other than May-Grunwald routine staining ( Romanowsky), and Iron staining (Perl's), other cytochemical stains may be employed, as deemed necessary.
