Xanthochromia
(Biochemistry)
Investigation : Xanthochromia
Turnaround : <2 hours
The ONLY indication for CSF Xanthochromia estimation is in cases of suspected subarachnoid haemorrhage in which the CT is normal. Requests that do not meet this criteria will be rejected by the laboratory. Please bear this in mind before you perform the lumbar puncture.

There are special requirements for the collection of CSF for xanthochromia measurement.

A Lumbar Puncture Collection Pack must be used. These are available from the Clinical Biochemistry Department.

Click here to view the instructions contained in the pack. Click the images above for the full size image.
