Introduction

The Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) service delivers investigations in support of the Liverpool Foundation Trustís renal and haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSC) programmes. The laboratory also delivers disease association and pharmacogenomics testing service to specialist services and GPís. The H&I laboratory is currently accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). Service Aims

  • To deliver a comprehensive H&I service in support of Liverpool Foundation Trustís renal and haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSC) programmes.
  • To perform other clinically relevant H&I investigations.
  • To provide a level of service which is in line with user expectation and is in reference with the relevant standards and guidelines.
  • To continually improve the service in response to our usersí needs.

    Laboratory Organisation

    The LCL H&I laboratory is part of the Directorate of Infection and Immunity which incorporates H&I, Clinical Immunology, Virology, and Microbiology. Dr Jenifer Mason is the Clinical Director for Infection and Immunity. The clinical service is supported by Consultant Clinical Scientist Dr Fotini Partheniou. Mr Nigel Hood is the Service Lead for H&I. The laboratory is also supported at a directorate level by LCL Finance and Human Resources.

    Out of Hours Service
    The H&I laboratory operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for deceased solid organ donor HLA typing and crossmatching in support of kidney transplantation at the Liverpool Foundation Trust. The out of hours service is staffed by suitably trained HCPC registered Biomedical and Clinical Scientists. To contact the on-call scientist use main switchboard (0151 706 2000) and ask for the on- call Transplant Immunologist.

    Clinical Advisory Service

    Consultant advice can be obtained from the Consultant Clinical Scientists for H&I via the on-call scientist in the first instance for out of hours requests. During normal working hours the Consultant Clinical Scientist can be contacted as per below: Dr Fotini Partheniou 0151 706 4246
