Investigations Pre-Transplant Crossmatching: Deceased Donors
Inform lab before sending Required: Due to the increased time pressure when transplanting using deceased organ donors the laboratory requests that the on-call scientist is informed of the impending arrival of crossmatch material a minimum of one hour prior to the expected organ arrival time.
Specimen type Patient:
  • 10ml clotted blood
  • 30ml EDTA

    Donor:
  • Spleen and/or lymph node tissue
  • Ideal time to take specimen Deceased donor crossmatching may be required at any time, to support this the laboratory provides a 24 hours service via an on-call scientist rota system.

Transport to the laboratory see H&I General Information Page
Test Times Test is a single assay, no repeat testing requirements are required
Turnround Within 6 hours of receipt of samples
Additional information The performance of the pre-transplant crossmatch for deceased kidney donation is required for a specified cohort of patients accordance with the H&I laboratory renal deceased donor crossmatch policy. The crossmatch is performed using flow cytometry and serological techniques and is able to differentiate auto and allo-specific reactivity separately against both T and B lymphocyte subsets.
Additional Examination Requests A primary sample must be received for this test
