Inform lab before sending Required: Due to the complex and manually intensive nature of this testing it is required that users contact the laboratory in advance to schedule a mutually convenient time to arrange for this testing.
Specimen type Patient:
  • 10ml clotted blood
  • 30ml EDTA

    Donor:
  • 60ml EDTA
  • Ideal time to take specimen The laboratory requests that samples for crossmatching arrive no later in the day than 12pm. This is to allow time for the crossmatch to be performed the same working day in order to best preserve cell viability and ensure a reliable accurate result.

    Additional information The performance of the pre-transplant crossmatch for live kidney donation is required in accordance with the H&I laboratory renal transplant policy. The crossmatch is performed using flow cytometry and serological techniques and is able to differentiate auto and allo-specific reactivity separately against both T and B lymphocyte subsets.

    The laboratory renal transplant policy requires that a final crossmatch be performed within 14 days of the proposed transplant date.
