Enquiries for Results :
Telephone enquiries for results can cause delays to other office activities resulting in frustration for all users. Please keep enquiries for essential routine results to a minimum and before phoning please check that the results are not available via the Laboratory "TelePath" system if you have access, and have not already been phoned or the reports delivered. Please have the following information to hand :-
  • the patient's hospital I.D. number
  • A/E number if appropriate
  • date of birth
  • ward
  • date and time of specimen request
  • tests requested.

If the office staff are unable to deal immediately with the enquiry, calls are transferred to the appropriate personnel. If the results are not yet available, the details are logged and the results phoned to the requested destination as soon as they are ready. There is no need to phone repeatedly.
Seriously abnormal results will automatically be telephoned.
